Connection & Pairing Guide

How to pair your drone with its remote controller and resolve common connection issues between aircraft, controller, and app.

Connecting Your Drone in 5 Steps

1

Power Both Devices

Turn on your remote controller first, then power on the drone. Allow both to complete their startup sequence (indicated by solid or blinking status lights — consult your model's manual for light patterns).

2

Open the Companion App

Launch the appropriate app for your drone (DJI Fly for consumer models, DJI Pilot 2 for enterprise, Autel Sky for Autel models, etc.). Ensure you're logged into your account.

3

Connect Controller to Phone

Connect your mobile device to the remote controller using the included USB-C or Lightning cable. Dismiss any system prompts about the USB device. The app should detect the controller and enter the camera view.

4

Check Aircraft Connection

In the app header, confirm the aircraft shows as "Connected". A green signal indicator confirms the link. If it shows "Disconnected", ensure the drone is powered on and within 30 metres.

5

Re-Linking If Disconnected

If pairing fails, use the Linking function in the app (Settings > Remote Controller > Linking) and hold the Link button on the aircraft (location varies by model — check your manual). The app will guide you through the process.

Connection Problems & Solutions

App shows "No Device Connected"
Try a different USB cable. Third-party cables may not carry data. Use the cable supplied with the controller, or a certified high-quality USB cable.
Controller links but aircraft shows Disconnected
Move the aircraft and controller within 10 metres of each other. Perform the re-linking procedure (see Step 5). If still failing, check that the aircraft firmware is up to date.
Frequent signal loss mid-flight
Check for wireless interference sources nearby (Wi-Fi routers, broadcast towers). Switch video transmission frequency to 2.4 GHz in the app. Keep the controller antennas pointed at the aircraft.
New phone won't connect to existing controller
Uninstall and reinstall the app on the new device. Re-enter your account credentials. Some controllers require a new USB link authorisation when a new phone is connected.
